If this isn't the most iconic guitar riff in rock history then it has
to be in the finale. Recorded as a tribute to Bon Scott, it is
widely considered the defining metal rock anthem. As a single,
"Back in Black" peaked in the U.S. at No. 37 on the Billboard Hot
100 chart in 1981 as well as at No. 51 on Billboard's Top Tracks
chart, which debuted in March 1981. "Back in Black" received
the RIAA's Master Ringtone Sales Award in 2006 and reached
2× Platinum status in 2007.
‘Back in black’
From: Back in black (1980)
As they exploded in Sydney in the mid-'70s, AC/DC's chaotic
frontman Bon Scott was singing about the band's holy trinity:
sex, booze, and rock 'n' roll. And since Brian Johnson's gruff
voice took over after Scott's death, the group has continued to
worship at the same altar. The best AC/DC songs contain an
overdose of raw, loud riffs and obnoxious puns. As a group,
they are as relentless as they are laid-back.
Crunching hard rock riffs, puns galore and an amusingly tight
school uniform: these are some of the elements that have made
AC/DC one of the most iconic rock & roll groups of the past 47
years. Songs like "Highway to Hell" and "You Shook Me All
Night Long" are rock classics. The secret to their success was
indeed the authenticity of the band.
